Warm tender apples encased in gooey maple and cinnamony sweetness, finished with a buttery, crispy oat topping make this Vegan Apple Crisp a must-have dessert for the holiday season! This dairy-free, nut-free, refined sugar-free and gluten-free apple crisp is sure to please all types of eaters. You can also make it soy-free by using a soy-free vegan butter.
Jump to RecipeI know we're a bit past apple season, but there's just something about baking apples that makes them so perfect for this time of year.
For starters, the aroma itself emanating from the oven is enough to make your mouth water and your heart warm.
That smell, my friends, is pure happiness.
And what would the holiday season be without joy?
Imagine taking a bite of warm, tender, melt-in-your-mouth apples oozing with the flavors of maple syrup, coconut sugar, lemon, cinnamon and nutmeg topped with a sweet, crispy coating...see I told you, mouthwatering! 😉
I wanted to make an apple crisp that wasn't just vegan but also nut-free too. You know, so those with nut allergies can enjoy this ooey gooey goodness. 🙂
How to Make This Gluten-Free, Vegan Apple Crisp
First, preheat your oven to 350°F. Then peel, core and cube the apples. Add the apple pieces to a large mixing bowl.
Add lemon juice, lemon zest, maple syrup, coconut sugar, oat flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Use your hands to combine ingredients until they are well incorporated.
Pour apple mixture into a 13" x 9" baking dish. Spread so that apples are evenly distributed.
Now make the topping. Add oats, oat flour, coconut sugar, cinnamon, salt and vegan butter to a mixing bowl. Use your hands to combine ingredients together until well incorporated.
Sprinkle topping evenly over the apple mixture.
Place the baking dish in the oven on the center rack and bake for 50-60 minutes until fruit is bubbling and topping has browned.
Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
