It's super easy to make guacamole using a homemade seasoning mix paired with some fresh lime juice.
We like to add fresh cilantro to ours too, but you can leave it out or use a dried version instead if you prefer.
Now, get out your chips because it's time to make some guac!

Ingredients you'll need
- Avocados
- Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice (helps prevent browning)
- Fresh Cilantro (if preferred, you can leave out or use dried instead)
- Onion Powder
- Garlic Powder
- Cayenne Pepper
- Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (optional, depending on your heat preference)
- Sea Salt
- Freshly Ground Black Pepper
How to make guacamole seasoning
Combine the onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper flakes (if using), salt and black pepper in a small bowl.
If you're using dried cilantro instead of fresh, add it to this mixture.
How to make easy homemade guacamole
First, make the seasoning mix above and set aside.
Then, chop the cilantro (if using).
Next, slice each avocado in half, removing the pit.
Scoop out the flesh and add to a mixing bowl.
Mash with a fork and then mix in the fresh cilantro (if using) and the seasoning mix.
Now, mix in some freshly squeezed lime juice.
You can enjoy the guacamole right away, but it is best served after being refrigerated in an airtight container for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
I hate cilantro! Can I leave it out?
Yes! If you happen to be a part of the population of cilantro haters, feel free to omit the cilantro.
The guac will still be delicious! 😉
Ideas for serving guacamole
Aside from the obvious tortilla chips, this guac also makes a great topping for our sheet-pan nachos (Recipe #5 in our free lazy vegan recipes e-cookbook), vegetarian nachos, chickpea tacos, pinto bean tacos, or a sweet potato black bean burger.
How do I store leftover guacamole?
Homemade guacamole is best enjoyed on the same day.
However, if you do have some leftover, check out how the site Avocados from Mexico suggests storing guacamole to keep it from turning brown.

I made this but it's a little to salty for me

Absolutely SPOT ON!! I reduced the recipe to 2 servings using the slider. Followed the recipe to the letter! I did need to add 1 more small avocado to tone it down just a tiny bit but that would probably not be the case for the majority of Guacamole lovers! FANTASTIC RECIPE!

It really is that easy!! LOL @ wishing for a seasoning packet and then having the "doink" moment that you can make your own seasoning!
I've done that several times! and always been much more pleased with the mixture I created than the original packet!
ps - I always like watching Peanuts ... who doesn't love Snoopy>!

Ha! Yes, I do that a lot...with tacos too! 🙂

I love all your name ideas but I agree that simple is better, especially for such a simple and easy dish! That looks wonderful and definitely a great reason to grow some cilantro and keep avocados on hand.
Now I'm craving a bean burrito to go with it. 🙂
Watch Learn Eat
Thanks Annemarie! We are actually growing some cilantro in our kitchen. I can't wait until it's ready to use!

Guacamole is my FAVE! I don't often make it myself because, well I don't know why - when it's this easy I have no excuse! Now I'm craving guac so bad, need to go grab some avocados STAT!
Oh, and I always struggle naming my recipes and then usually go with the simplest one too haha!

I love using my own spices also. You can control the sodium and there are no ingredients you need a PHd to pronounce! I like the red pepper flake in here. You don't often see that! Nice!
Watch Learn Eat
Hahaha! Yes, that's true! 🙂 Thanks Beth! The red pepper flakes add a nice little kick to it!
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables
Guacamole is like the vegetarian's version of bacon... I can put it on ANYTHING and it's delicious 😉 I love spicy things so the red pepper flakes would be perfect!
