Air fryer waffle fries for the win
It's no secret the air fryer is one of the most dope kitchen appliances ever made. EVER.
The air fryer allows humankind to cook all kinds of foods without turning on the oven and making those things crispy that need to be crispy without deep frying in a bucket of oil.
No oven. No deep fryer. Less oil. What's not to love?
The air fryer is especially a miracle device for frozen foods like tater tots, sweet potato fries, and of course waffle fries, because it cooks them perfectly every time.
Making waffle fries in air fryer also saves time than making them in the oven.
According to the directions on my bag of frozen waffle fries, they would take 21-24 minutes to make a full bag.
Using the air fryer, I was able to make them in much less time...just 10 minutes! It is the magic of the air fryer.
This easy air fryer waffle fries makes a great side dish and pairs perfectly with classic dips such as our Vegan Honey Mustard Dip or Garlic Pizza Sauce.
So, what are you waiting for?
Go get some waffle fries from your local grocery store and let's get ready to do some air frying! 🙂
What are the best waffle fries to use for air frying?
I love using the Alexia brand frozen waffle fries because they're non-GMO and all natural. But you can use any brand you can get your hands on at your local grocery store.
The Alexia Brand fries also come pre-seasoned with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, mustard, and chili pepper powder for a extra flavor already built in.
Of course, you can use any brand of waffle fries you'd like, seasoned or unseasoned.
Just be sure to check the ingredients on the bag to ensure they are vegan-friendly or gluten-free, if needed.
How to air fry frozen waffle fries
All you need is a bag of your favorite frozen waffle fries and optionally some salt and pepper if they're not pre-seasoned.
You don't even need any extra oil.
The first thing you want to do is insert the crisping tray if your air fryer model comes with a removable one.
Then, add the frozen waffle fries to the air fryer basket in an even layer.
It's OK if there is a little bit of overlap.
Air fry at 400° F for 10 minutes, shaking the basket at the 5-minute mark.
If you'd like even crispier waffle fries, continue to air fry for a couple more minutes.
Season with a little salt and black pepper, if desired.
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, vegan ranch, maple mustard dip, nondairy cheese sauce, etc.
These waffle fries make the perfect side dish for your favorite foods or the perfect snack for after school.
Note that I have not yet tried air frying sweet potato waffle fries or homemade waffle fries
Tips for making air fryer frozen waffle fries
- The waffle fries should be cooked from frozen and not thawed before cooking.
- You do not need to preheat the air fryer before cooking. However if you do, note that you may need to reduce the cooking time by 1-2 minutes.
- If you are cooking more than one batch of fries, you may need to reduce the cooking time by 1-2 minutes for subsequent batches.
Equipment you'll need
I used a 5.5 quart Ninja air fryer, but you can use any make and model such as a Cosori air fryer or other brand.
Note that smaller air fryers may require cooking the fries in two batches.
Storing and reheating leftovers
Leftover waffle fries can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
The best way to reheat them is in a 400° F air fryer for approximately 2-3 minutes or until warmed throughout.
